Framing

Dear & Friends,

It's amazing how our eyes play tricks on us.  When I looked at the slab I thought, "Gee, that doesn't look very big!"  As soon as the frame started going up, I thought, "Wow, it looks big!"  We are so excited as we watch our house taking shape.

This is our bedroom on the left (jutting out) and the back porch on the right.

Framing the garage...

This is the back porch.  Roof decking has been started and side sheeting...

Roof decking and side sheeting on garage...

More side sheeting on the garage side and tar paper on the roof...

The back porch...the large "window" on the right is my "quilting" room/guest room.
The two smaller windows at the left corner are the master bedroom.

The back porch...this is the dining room window...

Next, we will see progress on putting the siding on.  Hopefully, I can get that posted tomorrow.  Also, we changed our minds about the exterior paint.  It will be green...just a different shade from our other choice.
Love, Joye and Larry

Framing is in progress!

Wow!  I really slipped this last week and didn't keep the blog updated.  I am excited to announce the framing has begun.  There have been several mistakes which Larry caught and they have been resolved.

The main part of the house...
No framing yet on our bedroom and the garage.

Enjoying our porch again...

If you look real close you can see me standing in the "doorway."  It's on the left side of the clump of trees in the middle...

Larry is standing in the "garage" which is now being framed...

Another view...

This is a view from the back of the house which is our bedroom and bath.  We will have an opaque window in the shower.

We are hoping to have three small windows above the mirrors on this wall of the master bath.  However, there may be a problem with them being too much under the roof.

Another view of the three small windows...

I just talked to Larry, who is on his way home from work and decided to stop at the lot, and he said we have rafters.  Yeah!!  I'll try to get those pics posted tomorrow.

See ya,
Joye

More on the Slab

Good afternoon!  I thought I'd add some pictures of the equipment used to pour the slab.  It was truly an awesome sight.

There was a huge truck....

with a "crane" on it...

It slowly unfolded, rising high in the sky.  Then, it snaked over to the area to be filled.  There, a crew member was waiting to grab the "hose" (looked like an elephant's nose to me) and guided it over the rebar.

As that was happening, other crew members were smoothing the concrete.

When all the concrete had been poured, the "crane" rose up high and began folding down until it looked like this...

This was the first time I had observed a slab being poured and I thought it was really exciting.

Even more exciting is the fact that the lumber is to be delivered next week and hopefully the framing begins!

See you then!

The Journey Begins

Hello!
Welcome to our blog.  We (Larry and Joye) lived in our previous home for 23 years and I miss my roses so much!  Larry brought some with us to plant at the new house along with a fig tree, a pecan tree, a red oak tree and two hibiscus plants.

Unable to find a house (Beckie searched high and low but none “spoke” to us) with gas stove and fireplace and no tile floors, we decided to build.  We have a wonderful team, Mark and Ernest, who patiently worked with us to develop a house plan we loved.  We thought it would be fun to keep a record of the house being built, and our son suggested a blog.
This is the way our lot looked to begin with.   This is the left side of the lot.....

...and this is the right side of  it.

Up next the forms!
Joye
